CFT

Gentle. Grounded. Nervous-system focused.

Craniosacral Fascial Therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach that supports the nervous system, releases fascial tension, and helps the body unwind and regulate at its own pace. At Winding Willows, CFT is offered to children and adults as a calm, respectful therapy that works with the body — not against it — and is informed by the Gillespie Approach®.

What is CFT?

Craniosacral Fascial Therapy is a light-touch therapy that works with the body’s connective tissue (fascia) and nervous system. Fascia surrounds and supports muscles, organs, and nerves — and when it becomes restricted due to stress, injury, or prolonged tension, it can impact comfort, regulation, and overall well-being.

At Winding Willows, our CFT work is informed by the Gillespie Approach®, a gentle, trauma-aware method that emphasizes listening to the body and supporting nervous system regulation through safety, presence, and attunement. Using gentle, sustained touch, CFT follows the body’s cues rather than directing outcomes. Rather than forcing change, it supports the body’s natural ability to release tension, restore balance, and find greater ease.

Craniosacral Fascial Therapy sessions at Winding Willows are calm and unhurried. Sessions typically take place with the client lying comfortably on a treatment table or seated, fully clothed. During a session, the therapist uses very light, intentional touch to listen for areas of restriction and support release as the body is ready. Sessions are quiet, slow, and deeply individualized — creating space for the nervous system to settle, integrate, and reorganize.

You don’t need a diagnosis to benefit. Many people come simply because something feels stuck — physically, emotionally, or both — and they’re seeking a gentler, more respectful way forward

CFT can be supportive for both children and adults who experience:

  • Chronic tension or discomfort in the body
  • Difficulty calming or settling the nervous system
  • Stress, overwhelm, or emotional holding
  • Sensory sensitivities
  • Headaches or jaw tension
  • Challenges with sleep or relaxation
  • A sense of “holding it all together” in the body

Each session may include:

  • Gentle, sustained hands-on contact
  • Periods of stillness and quiet
  • Subtle movement or shifts in the body
  • Time for integration and rest

There is no manipulation, no force, and no expectation to “do” anything. The work unfolds through safety, presence, and attunement.

FAQs

What is Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT)

Craniosacral Fascial Therapy is a gentle, light-touch approach that supports the nervous system and the body’s natural ability to settle and reorganize. Sessions are guided by the body rather than force, instruction, or verbal processing.

What is The Gillespie Approach®

The Gillespie Approach® is a gentle, trauma-aware method of craniosacral and fascial work that focuses on supporting nervous system regulation. It uses light touch and careful listening to the body rather than force or manipulation.

At Winding Willows, this approach supports both children and adults by creating a sense of safety, easing tension, and allowing the body to unwind at its own pace.

How does CFT support children?

CFT can be especially supportive for children because it meets them exactly where they are — without requiring them to talk, explain, or actively participate.

Sessions are adapted to each child’s comfort level and may take place:

  • On the floor
  • Seated
  • With a caregiver nearby or participating, if needed

The primary focus is creating a sense of safety, trust, and ease.

Can parents be involved in their child’s CFT sessions?

Yes. Parents are welcome partners in the process. Your presence can be supportive and grounding, and sessions are always paced based on what feels right for your child.

How does CFT support adults?

Adults often carry stress, responsibility, and unresolved tension in their bodies. CFT offers a space to slow down and reconnect — without needing to explain, analyze, or push through discomfort.

Many adults describe sessions as deeply calming and grounding, especially during times of stress, transition, or recovery.

What does a CFT session feel like?

CFT uses gentle, light-touch techniques. Sessions are quiet, slow, and responsive, allowing the body to guide the process rather than the practitioner directing it.

What can I expect after a CFT session?

Each person’s response to CFT is unique. Some people notice immediate changes, while others experience subtle shifts over time.

It’s common to notice:

  • A sense of relaxation or ease
  • Increased body awareness
  • Emotional release or clarity
  • Improved sleep or settling

We encourage clients to notice changes gently, without expectation or pressure.
