The Nest

Occupational therapy group classes for children

The Nest is Winding Willows’ occupational therapy–led group classes for children and their caregivers.

These classes are designed to support regulation, connection, and development through shared experiences — where children learn through play and caregivers learn alongside them in a safe, supportive environment.

Think of The Nest as a “caregiver & child” class, guided by an occupational therapist, where families come together to connect, learn, and grow.

What is The Nest?

The Nest is Winding Willows’ occupational therapy–led group classes, designed for children and caregivers to learn and grow together in a supportive, relational environment.

While individual (1:1) occupational therapy offers highly personalized support, group classes provide something different — and equally valuable. In The Nest, children experience connection, shared regulation, and learning alongside peers, which can be especially powerful for those who feel isolated, different, or unsure of themselves. Group classes don’t replace individual therapy—they offer a different kind of support that can be just as meaningful for many children and families.

Many children benefit from seeing:

  • “I’m not the only one who feels this way.”
  • “Other kids are learning this too.”
  • “I belong here.”

For some children, this shared experience can feel less intimidating than individual therapy and can support confidence, regulation, and engagement in a natural way.

Support for Caregivers

The Nest is designed with caregivers in mind — not just as observers, but as active participants in the learning process. Group classes create space for caregivers to learn alongside their children, gain insight through real-time education woven naturally into activities, and connect with other parents and caregivers navigating similar experiences.

Many families find comfort in knowing they are not alone. The Nest offers a sense of shared understanding and community that extends beyond the walls of a one-on-one session.

Group classes also provide a more accessible entry point to occupational therapy–informed support. For families who are out-of-network, navigating limited insurance coverage, or seeking a lower-cost option, The Nest offers meaningful support without sacrificing quality or care.

For some families, group classes are a starting point. For others, they are an ongoing source of connection and growth alongside individual services.

Both paths are valid — and both are supported here.

FAQs

What are these groups for?

The Nest is for children and caregivers who benefit from shared experiences, peer connection, and learning together in a supportive group setting. Groups are designed to be welcoming, flexible, and developmentally informed — with caregivers actively participating alongside their children. No diagnosis is required.

What happens during group classes?

Each Nest class is OT-led, caregiver-inclusive, and thoughtfully structured, while remaining flexible and responsive to the group.

Classes may include:

  • Movement and body-based play
  • Sensory exploration
  • Games that support regulation and coordination
  • Opportunities for co-regulation and shared interaction
  • Real-time caregiver education woven naturally into activities

Caregivers actively participate, observe, and learn — gaining insight into how to support their child beyond the group setting.

Do caregivers stay for the entire class?

Yes. These are caregiver-and-child classes. Caregivers participate, observe, and learn alongside their child.

Do children need a diagnosis to attend?

No. A diagnosis or referral is not required.

What ages do The Nest groups serve?

The Nest offers groups for infants through adolescents, with age-appropriate structure and activities.

Can siblings attend?

Yes. We understand that families come with multiple needs — and siblings are welcome.

  • Enrolled siblings participate fully in the class and are included in the group fee.
  • Tag-along siblings who are not enrolled may spend time in our Sibling Zone for a small $5 supply fee.

The Sibling Zone includes:

  • Coloring and art activities
  • Calm, non-distracting toys
  • A supportive space to stay nearby while caregivers participate in class

This allows families to attend without needing additional childcare.

Is this a drop-off program?

No. These classes are designed for caregivers and children to participate together. Caregivers participate alongside their children, supporting connection, regulation, and learning within the group. The goal is to empower families — not just children — with understanding and tools that extend into everyday life. Participation is always guided, supportive, and flexible.
